Ovarian cysts are fluid filled sacs located in the ovary. They are very common in women of childbearing years and mostly have no associated symptoms. Symptoms associated with ruptured ovarian cyst include: pelvic pain, pressure in abdomen, rectum and bladder, nausea and vomiting. Ovarian cysts are diagnosed in routine pelvic pain exams and ultrasounds. Common treatment involves monitoring the cysts, contraceptives, or surgery to remove it if necessary. Solid masses can also be found on ovaries, and are typically benign, but malignancy must be ruled out. They are diagnosed similarly to cysts, with ultrasounds, pelvic exams and biopsies.
